Fantia Announces Temporary Suspension of Visa and Mastercard Payments
Today, the website Fantia announced the temporary suspension of payment options via Visa and Mastercard credit cards. According to Fantia’s announcement, they recommend their customers use JCB (Japanese) and American Express (USA) credit cards during this period.
This news follows similar actions by other Japanese sites. Recently, DLsite also removed the option to pay with Visa and Mastercard from their platform.
Websites affected by Visa and Mastercard policies usually contain adult content, but even the video site Niconico had to suspend this payment option due to pressure from the two companies.
Pixiv has taken measures to block certain content for users outside of Japan, specifically in the United States and Canada. Fantia is similar to Patreon, allowing users to directly support their favorite creators.
