Anime Leakers Face Legal Action from US Court for the First Time
In a groundbreaking move, a US court is working with anime giants Aniplex and Toho to identify and punish leakers who have been illegally distributing content from popular anime like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. This information was revealed on September 6 by Japan’s Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), as reported by ITmedia.
Anime Leakers Face Legal Action from US Court for the First Time
The US court issued an order to disclose the identities behind accounts that leaked clips and screenshots from anime episodes before their official release. Aniplex and Toho, the copyright holders of these series, requested the court action in June of this year. After CODA provided evidence of the leaks, the order was authorized on August 20.
This marks the first time a US court has taken action in a case involving leaks of Japanese anime. CODA also mentioned that similar processes are ongoing for other titles. The organization is committed to enforcing severe punishments once the leakers are identified.
