Two Men who Leaked Mangas were Sentenced to Prison
One of the problems of the manga industry seen by many people is chapter leaks before the official release, this irritates the publishers who own the manga and also many fans who are irritated at receiving manga spoilers.
On the other side we have people who leak the chapters and those who can’t handle their anxiety and want to know what happens straight away, and thus support the leaks by sharing them on social media.
There have been several cases of fights on social media because a chapter of a famous manga ended up being leaked and becoming one of the hottest topics on the internet and people who didn’t want to get the spoiler ended up seeing it and getting very upset.
Two Men who Leaked Mangas were Sentenced to Prison
Recently two men who leaked manga were arrested and their trial began at the Kumamoto court. During the trial it was revealed that a popular Twitter account called “DBS HYPE” demanded Jump manga from the two men in exchange for promoting their company.
The two men have a company in Japan called Japan Deal World. According to prosecutors, the person behind the DBS HYPE profile contacted the company and made the illicit proposal, so the owner of the Japan Deal World company asked one of his employees to photograph the pages of the unreleased manga and send it to the DBS HYPE.
DBS HYPE received leaks from the One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen mangas. Today we had an update on the case. The sentence was passed on the two men, who are French.
One of them was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a fine of 500,000 yen and the other was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a fine of 300,000 yen. The men’s defense asked for a suspended sentence, as they received an offer from DBS HYPE that was not fulfilled.
Despite having been sentenced to these sentences, the final sentence will only be given on July 25th, so it may still change, for more or less.
Because of this case, leaks from the manga Kagurabachi, Sakamoto Days and Edens Zero. Japanese police received a “Thank You” letter from Japanese publishers regarding the case.
