The YOASOBI duo became a topic of discussion after their song “Idol” went viral worldwide as the opening theme for the anime Oshi no Ko. But did you know that YOASOBI have disbanded if “Idol” hadn’t been successful?
It’s unthinkable to imagine that now, considering that the original MV for “Idol” generated 339 million views, the English version has 28 million views, and the live version has 44 million views!
Would YOASOBI have disbanded if it weren’t for “Idol” from Oshi no Ko?
As you may know, “Idol” was chosen as the opening theme for Oshi no Ko, an anime that broke records (such as views on Hidive) and further propelled the duo’s music.
The YOASOBI duo recently gave an interview where it was revealed that if “Idol” didn’t sell, “YOASOBI might have separated.” This was expressed as a thought that was “half-serious, half-joking,” so the interpretation is open to what that means.

The song currently has 331 million views on YouTube, an undeniably tremendous success that allowed the duo to continue their activities, once again showcasing the influence of anime in the Japanese music scene. YOASOBI will continue to move people with their songs.
