Vtuber Mori Calliope sings Music for One Piece, and it annoys some fans
On July 2nd, it was announced that Vtuber Mori Calliope would be singing a song called “Future Island,” which is a music collaboration with One Piece. It’s interesting to see the difference in how the news was received in Japan compared to the West.
While the Japanese fans were happy and excited about Mori’s music, Western fans have been critical of the choice.

The collaboration song between One Piece and Mori Calliope was recently released on YouTube, and you can watch it in the video below:
But as I mentioned, the difference in the reaction from the two audiences was quite interesting to see. Mori is somewhat controversial in the West, with the infamous “netorare” controversy that caused a lot of discussion when it happened.
Well, as I mentioned above, the Japanese fans were very happy with the collaboration, but how did Western fans react?
“This was one of the first defeats we’ve had.”
“I’m no longer a fan of One Piece.”
“A terrible day for One Piece fans.”
“We went from Ado to this in less than a year.”
“How did we go from Ado to a racist Vtuber?”
“They literally have a pirate Vtuber, but they still chose Calli” (referring to Marine, who is a pirate).
“But what does she know about One Piece?”
“After reading 1064 chapters, it’s time to drop it.”
“One Piece fans, I’m sorry.”
“Worst day of my life.”
“I wouldn’t have put ‘dropping One Piece’ on my 2023 bingo, but hey, Oda can surprise us in mysterious ways.”
These are just some of the comments. Many people really hate on Mori for various reasons. I used to watch her, but I also stopped, although it wasn’t because of any controversy. I simply wanted to reduce the number of Vtubers I was watching (there were too many).
Anyway.
