Nijisanji, the Vtuber agency, has announced that one of its long-standing vtuber Mirei Gundo to graduate after making a joke about baseball. Graduating, in this context, means retiring and discontinuing activities.

As mentioned earlier, Gundo made a joke that offended baseball fans, which is one of the most popular sports in Japan. As a result, she received a suspension in March.

The joke was posted on her Twitter profile, where she wrote, “Can’t you remove someone from the field by hitting them on the head with the ball hard enough?” Gundo seems to have a lack of understanding of baseball rules.

She later posted a video apologizing for the aforementioned tweet:

In the video above, Mirei Gundo apologizes for the tweet that caused a lot of discomfort among baseball fans. Baseball is the most-watched sport in Japan.

Gundo’s suspension occurred after Japan’s victory in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where Shohei Ohtani from the Japanese team eliminated Mike Trout from the USA team, resulting in a 3-2 victory for the Japanese team.

Now, with her graduation, Mirei Gundo will have her final live stream on June 21st, with all her social media accounts becoming private the following day. Mirei Gundo debuted as a Vtuber in Nijisanji in January 2019.

It is worth noting that Nijisanji has commercial partnerships with baseball investors, and this heavily influenced her graduation.
