Manga predicts disaster in July 2025

Imagine a manga that not only tells stories — but seems to predict the future. That’s the case of Watashi ga Mita Mirai (The Future I Saw), a work by Ryo Tatsuki that is once again gaining attention due to a chilling prediction: a major disaster set to occur on July 5, 2025.

Originally published in 1999, the manga is based on a dream diary Tatsuki kept for years. It remained relatively unknown until after the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. On the manga’s cover, a journal page reads ominously: “A Big Disaster in March 2011.”

The accuracy stunned readers, and the manga was suddenly thrust into the spotlight, featured across major Japanese TV networks. Some impersonated the reclusive Tatsuki online, spreading false predictions, which prompted her to publish a Complete Edition in 2021 that clarified her original notes — and added a new, even more haunting prophecy.

In this edition, Tatsuki writes that she wasn’t certain about the link between the 2011 disaster and her dream but felt compelled to note the date due to its recurring presence in her visions. She now warns that a similar event will occur on July 5, 2025.

While some dismiss this as coincidence, her claim is already influencing behavior — especially in Hong Kong, where the manga found popularity. Greater Bay Airlines reported a 30% drop in flight bookings to Japan and blamed fears stemming from the prophecy.

Fueling these concerns, a famous feng shui expert in Hong Kong also warned that a major earthquake may strike Japan between June and August, further intensifying public anxiety.

Politicians Outraged by False Disaster Rumors

The response from Japanese officials has been sharp. Miyagi Governor Yoshihiro Murai criticized the spread of “unscientific information” on social media. Governor Masazumi Gotoda of Tokushima added that disasters are unpredictable and that people should focus on preparedness rather than fear.

Online, the reactions range from mockery to exhaustion:

  • “Oh great, here comes Tatsuki again.”
  • “If she’s right this time, I’ll believe her.”
  • “Why does she only dream about disasters?”
  • “Thanks, occult YouTubers.”
  • “Maybe overtourism needed a break anyway.”

Two accurate predictions is a feat rarely achieved by anyone, even scientists. But as July draws near, tension rises. Is this just superstition? Or are we overlooking something real in the shadows of fiction?
