How Yaiba Samurai Legend Changed Sayaka Bath Scene
A remake of the Yaiba Samurai Legend anime, created by the same author behind Detective Conan, is currently airing. Since the manga is quite old, certain elements of its story have been completely changed — such as Sayaka’s bath scene — because we live in 2025 now and some situations are no longer acceptable on TV.
But since I’ve seen Japanese fans commenting on a major difference between what happens in Episode 5 and what’s depicted in the manga, let’s talk about it!
How Yaiba Samurai Legend Changed Sayaka Bath Scene
In Episode 5 of Yaiba Samurai Legend, Yaiba, Sayaka, and the others are invited to a hot spring (which turns out to be a trap set by the villains). In this episode, there’s a bath scene with Sayaka:
In the anime, Musashi encourages Yaiba to peek at Sayaka in the bath, calling it “training.” She then hits him, throws water at him, and the scene transitions into a test of courage.
IN THE MANGA, HOWEVER, IT’S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
Episode 5 corresponds to chapter 29 in volume 3 and chapters 35 and 36 in volume 4. In volume 4, we see the hot spring scene, but instead of Musashi, it’s Yaiba’s father who peeks at Sayaka bathing and encourages Yaiba to do the same!
If you’ve watched Episode 5 of Yaiba Samurai Legend, you’ll definitely notice the differences from the original manga. In the manga, Yaiba’s father motivates him to spy on Sayaka and even teaches him what kind of expression to make:
It’s worth noting that the Yaiba Samurai Legend manga began publication in 1988 — it was a different time. Take Dragon Ball as an example, which often showed characters nude in various situations. But scenes like these are clearly no longer acceptable in modern anime.
Yaiba’s father was completely cut from this scene in the anime adaptation, and a test of courage — which doesn’t exist in the manga — was added instead.
Looking at some Japanese fan reactions, I saw people questioning whether it’s appropriate in today’s world to show a young girl like Sayaka bathing in anime. Others expressed surprise that the anime showed her bathing at all.
One commenter even said that, even back when the original manga was published, it was gross to see a father getting excited over his son’s schoolmate.
