Taiwanese media reported on November 21 that a man is facing a lawsuit and a fine of 12,000 TWD (approximately $380 USD) for posting defamatory comments on a woman’s social media post
The remarks involved comparing the woman’s appearance to the Cart Titan, a quadrupedal titan featured in Attack on Titan known for its exaggerated facial features, particularly an elongated face, an unproportionately large jaw, and mouth, earning it a reputation of being humorously “ugly” among fans.
Taking a stance against online harassment, the woman took legal action and filed a lawsuit against the offender. Additionally, another user who echoed the same comment, incorporating sexually suggestive implications, faced a steeper penalty of approximately $790 and a 25-day detention sentence.
Public opinion in Taiwan overwhelmingly supported the plaintiff, deeming the comparison to the Cart Titan inappropriate and offensive. A Taiwanese lawyer commented that the court likely interpreted the act as malicious and defamatory, justifying the legal consequences.
Interestingly, this case has sparked a wave of memes, humorously portraying the Cart Titan as now achieving a “court-approved” level of ugliness.
