Upon being questioned by the police, Ri Ito admitted to the crime saying, “I did it with the intention of killing him, I stabbed him twice in the stomach with the knife.” The case took place in a crowded place at the station, but there were no witnesses at the time of the crime.
The victim lives less than 2 kilometers away, and it is said that he does not have a job, being supported by his mother in her 70s who earns money from cleaning. He’s not a hikikomori though, he’s just unemployed at the moment.
The police suspect that Ri Ito would have done “catfishing” with the man, Catfishing is when someone creates a fake online persona or uses photos and personal information pretending to be someone else in a scam. The aim is to start a relationship with a victim, build trust and extract personal information.
Police found the following messages on Ri Ito’s online profile:
“Are you going to take responsibility for what you said?”
“Just because you’re a chicken don’t think I’m the same”
“No forgiveness. Can’t help if they’re crazy, but if they’re not, they should take responsibility, not taking responsibility and running away is what crazy people do.”
One thing that netizens noticed is the difference between Ri Ito’s online version and her real version.
