First off, Kumagai reveals that his first character-inspired scent was Mashin Warrior Wataru’s in 2018. This merchandise was developed to commemorate Wataru’s thirtieth birthday.

Wataru perfume is a blend of verbana, fougere, musk and amber scents:

Kumagai says that for a series that has such a large fan base, it’s hard to predict how many hardcore fans will buy special merchandise, but in the case of Wataru perfume, it turned out to be more hardcore fans than he expected.

And nowadays, Tokyo has anime characters perfumery like Attack on Titan, Madoka Magica, Konosuba among others!

When asked what other perfumes sold better than he expected, Kumagai said CC’s perfume by Code Geass sold very well. As well as series-inspired ones for City Hunter and Kinnikuman.

He also said that there was a perfume for Madoka Ayukawa from Kimagure Orange Road that was a big hit.

Fairy Tail’s product lineup has many series from the 80s and 90s. Kumagai doesn’t let a series’ age stop it from becoming popular again. ”Even if a series is over, if it’s a good story, it will stay with you,” Kumagai said.

This perfume by Cowboy Bebop Spike Spiegel has elements of ginger, moss and sandalwood.
