Where Does the Information That Oda Doesn’t Like Theories Come From?

De Onde vem a Informação de que Oda não gosta de Teorias?

A few days ago, we made a post here talking about how Oda doesn’t like channels that theorize about the One Piece story, trying to guess what might happen in the plot. We even reported that a channel called Yuderon shut down out of respect for Oda’s wishes.

In addition to Yuderon, several other One Piece analysis channels in Japan have also announced the end of their activities, and even a well-known website focused on One Piece theories ended up deleting all of its pages in respect for Oda’s preferences.

Now, many people are wondering: what is the source of this information that Oda hates theories? Did Oda actually say this? Where did it come from? Is it fake?

Here’s the deal: there’s a famous comedy duo in Japan called Shimofuri Myojo, made up of comedians Seiya and Soshina.

Both of them have a radio show called “All Night Nippon”, where Seiya, who is a friend of Oda, made the following comment, which is what you can hear in the video below:

“I don’t really know how much I can say, but well, I kind of know Oda-sensei, you know? We’ve been in contact for quite a while. To be honest, we even exchanged some LINE messages today, like, ‘Oh, that was interesting, right?’. But it seems that he doesn’t really like it when people make theories, like ‘What if it’s this?’ or ‘Could it be that?’. When people start speculating too much, it seems to bother him a little. Of course, it’s fine if you do it as entertainment, but even then, it feels like he doesn’t really like it. This whole thing of making theories like, ‘Ah, so it’s probably this, huh?’… yeah, he doesn’t like that much. Better not do it.”

From what it sounds like, Oda doesn’t really like when people come to him and start theorizing about One Piece — it bothers him. You can listen to the moment when Seiya says this in the recording below:

So no, Oda hasn’t said this publicly or through Shonen Jump. It was Seiya, a personal friend of Oda, who shared this on his radio show. And because he’s a well-known public figure, many Japanese fans are believing him and choosing to respect Oda’s wishes.

There you have it.
