“Otaku and a 12-episode anime with open ending, made in 2012 and author died”

The meme highlights a very specific trope, but many anime likely fall into this category—older shows that still haven’t gotten a sequel. One user mentioned No Game No Life, which premiered in 2014 and has yet to receive a second season.

That’s when they commented: “No Game No Life, the author is Brazilian and was apparently arrested.” According to this user, the reason No Game No Life never got a second season was due to Yuu Kamiya, the author, being arrested.

The problem? Yuu Kamiya wasn’t aware he’d been arrested! The author saw the post and replied: “Really? I’m the author of No Game No Life, but I didn’t know that.”

His response caused the original poster to delete their comment. This bizarre Twitter interaction sparked plenty of reactions. Yuu Kamiya, who has never been arrested, even shared the incident in Japanese to let his fans know how strange rumors about him spread overseas.

Afterward, some Brazilian fans wondered why Yuu Kamiya doesn’t post more often in Portuguese or interact with his Brazilian followers. One fan found a 2017 tweet where he explained his difficulty writing in Portuguese: “I struggle to write in Portuguese.”
