Check out a comparison between the anime version and the Netflix version of Going Merry below:
But taking the comments from the Japanese fans and not the western ones? What was it they said? We will see:
“This looks like it’s going to be on par with the live-action Dragon Ball.”
“It’s live-action ‘Wa Piece’!”
“No desire to stay true to the source material, eh?”
“All Netflix does is screw things up.”
“There was absolutely no need to tinker with the design of the Going Merry in that way.”
“It looks like a sheep that has been suddenly petrified.”
“Those lifeless eyes…”
“I think the designers confused the project with a live-action adaptation of Berserk.”
“Do they think One Piece is a horror series or something?”
“That’s not the Going Merry. It’s the Going Baphomet.”
“You sure have to burn this.”
“Kill me… please… with fire…”
“It’s too scary.”
“That’s kind of scary, isn’t it?”
Yeah, it seems that the crowd didn’t really like it, there was even another fan who shared a photo of a real version of the Going Merry that was made and that was used to transport passengers:

As you can see above, the Going Merry that was created was much more like its anime version. What do you think of the look of Netflix’s Going Merry? I don’t think the visuals are bad, it’s ok for a live-action adaptation.
