Isekai Izakaya Nobu Manga Illustrator Raises Issues Over Payment and Missing Cover Art for Volume 19
Virginia Nitōhei, the Illustrator of the manga Isekai Izakaya “Nobu”, announced on their X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday that the 19th compiled volume of the series will not include any bonus content and may not even feature cover art.
In a follow-up post, Nitōhei explained that the absence of these extras is due to the publisher’s cancellation of promised royalties for their manuscript. Kadokawa is set to release the new volume on December 4.
Nitōhei also shared various posts from other artists, highlighting ongoing concerns about the lack of proper compensation for cover art in manga volumes.
Among the reposted statuses were those from George Morikawa, creator of Hajime no Ippo, and Sumito Ōwara, author of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!.
Morikawa emphasized the need to understand both the artists’ and publishers’ perspectives, while Ōwara shared his own challenges regarding unpaid cover art and noted that he has started directly negotiating with publishers to address the issue.
Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” began serialization in Young Ace magazine in July 2015, featuring character designs by Kururi.
