Since Bandai Namco announced the brand-new anime Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, fans and media have been buzzing about Hideaki Anno‘s involvement, given his reputation from Neon Genesis Evangelion. While Anno is credited as the co-writer, a recent statement shifted the spotlight to Kazuya Tsurumaki, the series’ director.

Yamashita added humorously, “Since Anno is Khara’s president, he reviews things as they progress. We’re trying to delay showing him updates as much as possible to avoid last-minute meddling.”

Who Is Kazuya Tsurumaki?

Tsurumaki, the director of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, is often regarded as Hideaki Anno’s protégé. He worked as an assistant director on Neon Genesis Evangelion at Gainax and debuted as a full-fledged director with the acclaimed experimental anime FLCL.

Over the years, he has directed notable projects such as Diebuster, Khara’s Rebuild of Evangelion series, and The Dragon Dentist. Fans are eager to see how Tsurumaki’s unique vision will shape this exciting new entry in the Gundam franchise.
