Apple Demands and Blue Reflection will Censor Illustrations of Cleavage, Feet, and More

A sad day for those who play the mobile game Blue Reflection Sun on their iPhones, as the game Blue Reflection will Censor Illustrations due to Apple’s requirements. So far, there’s been no mention of censorship from Google on Android.

On August 28th, it was announced that the mobile game Blue Reflection Sun would be reviewing illustrations present in the game to comply with Apple’s standards, in order for the game to remain available on iOS.

Blue Reflection Sun is part of the Blue Reflection franchise, which includes 2 JRPGs released for PC (and other platforms).

In the Blue Reflection games, we control magical girls who help people by facing monsters in other worlds. The games are set in schools and are visually appealing.

Now, Blue Reflection Sun is a gacha game in the series, and as you might know, you can receive cards with illustrations of the girls in various situations, such as exercising or taking a bath, etc.

These illustration cards can be equipped to the girls you use in combat to improve their attributes. But as mentioned above, Apple took issue with some of the illustrations on these cards and is compelling Koei Tecmo and DMM to alter them for the iOS version.

For example, see the artwork below? Apple demands its alteration, yes, this is one of the illustrations that Apple deemed problematic:

Due to this situation, it’s safe to say that the game’s developers might have to censor more cards that Apple hasn’t yet considered problematic, as Apple could complain about anything at any time, including illustrations that might come in the future.

A fan posted: “Sad news, bath cards aren’t allowed.”

The illustrations in question range from bath and pool scenes to a girl showing the sole of her foot. The reason why these illustrations were targeted by Apple isn’t clear, but the announcement gave some indications about the kind of illustrations that might need to be reviewed in the future, including “sexually suggestive depictions of characters” and “illustrations that show an excessive amount of skin or overly focus on certain parts of the body.”
