Artists Participate in the Irasutoya Challenge

There is a Japanese website called Irasutoya, operated by illustrator Takashi Mifune, which offers free illustrations that can be used for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, as long as the site’s guidelines are followed.

These illustrations are widely used by various Japanese websites, and if you frequently browse Japanese internet, you’ve probably seen these illustrations being used to depict all sorts of different situations.

Recently, the “Irasutoya Challenge” emerged on Japanese internet. The challenge involves taking various Irasutoya artworks and recreating the illustration in your own style. Under the hashtag #いらすとやチャレンジ, you can see many artists participating in the challenge.

One example of an illustration from this challenge is shown below. In the top left corner, you can see the original Irasutoya art, and below that, the Irasutoya Challenge version. In this case, we have a woman trying to ignore the figure behind her staring intently at her, with the kanji above it saying “Reality.”
