Crunchyroll Takes Down All Episodes from AnimeHeaven
Another anime piracy site is in trouble. Recently, MangaDex had to remove chapters from over 7,000 manga titles, and now AnimeHeaven is also facing issues. When trying to access any episode on the site, users are met with an error message stating that the servers were taken down by “DMCA trolls” instead of being able to watch the content.
Crunchyroll Takes Down All Episodes from AnimeHeaven
Crunchyroll has been named as one of the entities responsible for requesting the removal of AnimeHeaven’s content. A moderator commented, “Crunchyroll took down the video server.” While it’s not clear which other companies were involved, several major groups in the anime industry have submitted takedown requests to Google to deindex links to the site.
According to site moderators on Discord, it’s “unlikely” the episodes will return, with one even saying the situation will presumably continue “forever.”
Entities involved in the takedown include MarkScan, Remove Your Media, comeso GmbH, and Anti-Piracy Protection, representing major companies such as Crunchyroll, Toho, GKIDS, Japan Creative Contents Alliance, SB Creative, Toei Animation, Kadokawa Anime, among others.
With approximately 11.6 million visits in April and over 39 million in the last three months, the AnimeHeaven takedown represents a significant loss for those who accessed anime content illegally. This move is part of a growing global crackdown on piracy, particularly in the manga and anime sectors.
Other Piracy Sites Also Affected
In addition to AnimeHeaven, MangaDex also suffered a major blow, revealing that about 7,000 titles were impacted by recent actions. The team clarified that they have no plans to become another Crunchyroll, but that the platform is now managed by NamiComi, which will allow more efficient responses to DMCA takedown notices.
Another recent case is Reaper Scans, a site that shut down after receiving a cease-and-desist notice from Korea’s Kakao Entertainment. The crackdown also extends to sites like OKToon, NoonooTV, and TVWiki, whose operator is scheduled to face sentencing on May 26.
