Student Rescued on Mount Fuji Twice in Less Than a Week
A 27-year-old college student from China who lives in Tokyo became the protagonist of an unusual story on Mount Fuji after having to be rescued twice in just four days. The young man was initially saved on April 22, after suffering from symptoms of altitude sickness and losing his climbing crampons near the summit of the mountain.

On the first occasion, the rescue was so complicated that a helicopter was needed to remove him safely. Even after this scare, the student returned to the site on April 26 — but not to try climbing again.
Unfortunately, the return did not go as planned. Near the eighth station of the Fujinomiya trail, at an altitude of about 3,250 meters, the student began to feel unwell again and was rescued once again, this time by teams from the Shizuoka prefecture. He was diagnosed with altitude sickness once again and taken to the fifth station of the trail, where he received medical care.
But then you ask yourself: what motivated him to climb Mount Fuji twice in one week and be rescued both times? Basically, he lost his cell phone on the mountain while climbing for the first time, and after being rescued, he decided to go back to look for it.
The Japanese saying goes that it is wise to climb Mount Fuji once in a lifetime, but foolish to do it twice. Returning for a third time would only make sense if it is during the right season — and, preferably, without any further incidents.
