Oreimo is a light novel series written by Tsukasa Fushimi and illustrated by Hiro Kanzaki. The story follows high school student Kyosuke Kosaka, who discovers that his distant younger sister, Kirino, is actually an otaku with an extensive collection of moe anime and eroge games with a little sister theme that she secretly collects.
Kyosuke quickly becomes Kirino’s confidant in her secret hobby, and the two, who used to have little interaction, now have a lot of contact with each other. The series had anime adaptations until its story was concluded.
Then, Ghost Mikawa, the author of Gimai Seikatsu, which recently had an anime adaptation announced and is set to premiere in 2024, stated that he considers Oreimo a masterpiece.
”Oreimo is a masterpiece. It’s my favorite.”
He responded to this when asked about his favorite “sis-con” story. Before that, he was asked about his favorite romance novels or anime, to which Ghost Mikawa replied with:
Toradora, Oreimo, Sakurasou, Honey and Clover, Kaguya-sama, Kimi no Na wa, and Yesterday wo Utatte, really cool anime and manga that focus on romance.
What is Gimai Seikatsu about? That there will be an anime in 2024!
The story focuses on Yuta Asamura, whose father remarries while he is in high school, and he gains a new and beautiful step-sister, Saki Ayase.
Saki is also the top student in her class. Both have some knowledge of male-female relationships through their parents, and to avoid causing discord in the family, they agree not to be too confrontational but also not too compromising, maintaining a moderate distance between them.
