Introducing Mayonaka Heart Tune – The “Replacement” for Gotoubun no Hanayome?
Gotoubun no Hanayome is a highly popular romcom. The manga sold well, received two anime seasons, a movie, and even specials to cover what was left! However, with the manga’s end, do you think there’s been a void in the world of manga romcoms?
Masakuni Igarashi is the author of Senryuu Shoujo, a romcom that had an anime adaptation but didn’t generate the same buzz as other stories. Nevertheless, his new manga seems to be creating high expectations.
Introducing Mayonaka Heart Tune – The “Replacement” for Gotoubun no Hanayome?
You’ll understand why we’re comparing Mayonaka Heart Tune to Gotoubun no Hanayome further below. Mayonaka Heart Tune is the new romantic comedy manga that started its publication this week.
The premise is as follows: when he was younger, the protagonist used to listen to a radio program on his phone. The person hosting the program was a girl, but our protagonist never knew her real name, only the name she used for the program.
Now, in high school, he decides to look for her, armed only with the memory of her voice! He then enrolls in a school that until the previous year was exclusively for girls (but he’s not the only boy in the school).
Upon hearing a girl speak on the school’s radio, he rushes out, “it’s the voice,” but upon entering the room, there are four girls there!
After a crazy conversation with the girls, he gathers the courage to ask which of them is Apollo, the name of the girl who hosted the radio program. However, none of them confirm anything; in fact, they ask what that would be.
He also can’t identify which of the girls is Apollo because each one has a bit of the voice of the girl he heard on the program. One has the same accent, another the same tone and intonation, another the voice of disdain, and one has the same voice as Apollo.
Furthermore, each of the girls has a dream that Apollo described having
So the boy proposes to join their club, and with his money he will provide equipment, the girls agree! Now he can stay close to the 4 girls and find out which one was Apolo.
And so begins Mayonaka Heart Tune, a romantic comedy where, right from the start, it’s clear it will be a harem, with these four girls, while our protagonist searches for the real Apollo, who is obviously hiding her identity!
It looks like we’re about to return to theories (if the manga proves to be good, of course). I remember how much fun it was trying to guess who the bride was in Gotoubun no Hanayome.
