Dream Job? Job Opening in Japan to Watch VTubers
A rather surreal job listing recently went viral on Japanese social media — it’s essentially a job where you get paid to watch VTubers! The hourly wage is ¥1,230 (which is about $8,53).
Here are the job details: The position is for people with disabilities and it’s a work-from-home job. It consists of “verifying VTuber videos” using either your smartphone or computer.
The company name hasn’t been disclosed, but as already mentioned, the salary is $8,53 per hour, and the working hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM. You get two days off per week and also have holidays off.
Naturally, the job went viral for obvious reasons. The only known detail about the hiring company is that it’s affiliated with Hololive. And of course, otaku reacted in all sorts of ways:
-
“What kind of company is this?”
-
“Whoever gets hired will probably become a hater after a few days.”
-
“Working on this seems exhausting.”
-
“Maybe it’s a moderator position.”
-
“This looks great! I have a second-class disability certificate, so I’m eligible. Plus, I love Hololive and watch it all the time. This job feels made for me.”
-
“I don’t know exactly what they want to verify, but couldn’t you just run the video through Google AI and have it do the job?”
-
“If it were just clips, maybe. But watching full livestreams non-stop is tough.”
-
“If the company is legit, this is a dream job. But do you really need to have a disability certificate?”
-
“I looked it up and the job actually exists. I might seriously apply.”
-
“This might be worse than working in a factory — more like torture.”
-
“Watching 6 hours of unfamiliar VTubers every day with full focus sounds pretty intense.”
-
“Looks like they’re inflating view counts, lol.”
-
“Having to seriously listen to 6 hours of a woman talking nonsense as a job is kinda rough. Even half-listening is painful.”
Would you take this job if you could?
