Japanese Twitter is now ”X Japan”? Which is already the name of a famous japanese rock band
The whole world was stunned when Twitter changed its name to ”X” and ditched the famous blue bird logo in the process.
In Japan, Japanese branches of international organizations are called by the name of the parent company more ”Japan”, for example, Starbucks Japan, McDonalds Japan and so on.
Only now, Japanese Twitter would be called ”X Japan”, which is already the name of a super famous rock band in the country. What would Japanese Twitter look like?
Japanese Twitter is now X Japan?
Many fans of the band X Japan began to wonder if the social media platform was now claiming ownership of the name. As the online conversation continued, however, a reassuring voice entered the discussion, X Japan founder and vocalist Yoshiki himself.
”I think X Japan is already a trademark.”
#XJAPAN 商標登録してあると思うけどなー🤔
I think it's already trademarked.#YOSHIKI#X #TWITTER #TwitterJapan
— Yoshiki (@YoshikiOfficial) July 24, 2023
While he doesn’t mention whether or not the trademark is also registered outside of Japan, it seems that at least it would be enough to prevent Twitter/X from calling itself ”X Japan” inside Japan, which is really the only place where social media platform would like to call itself that.
X Japan fans responded with much relief:
”When I hear X Japan, Yoshiki’s X Japan is the only one I think of!”
”The number one band was the first to grab the name.”
”Block that trademark early. That’s Yoshiki for you!”
”Yoshiki is simply the best.”
”It makes you wonder if Musk and his lawyers just didn’t bother to check whether ‘X Japan’ was available as a name or not.”
”Haha, they could use ‘Y Japan”’.
It’s unclear whether or not the band’s copyright would be enough to prevent Japanese Twitter from simply calling itself ”X” in Japan, but it at least appears that the social media company will rebrand itself as ”X Japan” it is not an option.
