How Many Seasons Will Be Needed to Adapt the Entire Story of Mushoku Tensei?
With the end of the second season and the announcement of the third season of Mushoku Tensei, many fans are wondering: how many seasons will it take to adapt the entire story?
For those who don’t know, Mushoku Tensei is a completed light novel series, with its main story wrapped up in 26 volumes. While the author may release side novels with parallel stories, the main plot is finished.
In this post, we’ll try to predict what the studio will do to complete the entire story of Mushoku Tensei.
How Many Seasons Will Be Needed to Adapt the Entire Story of Mushoku Tensei?
First Season of Mushoku Tensei
The first season was divided into two parts: the first part was released in January 2021 with 11 episodes, and the second part in October of the same year with 12 episodes, totaling 23 episodes. There was also an OVA episode about Eris killing Goblins, so if you include this, the first season had 24 episodes.
The first season adapted volumes 1 to 6 of the light novel, covering Rudeus’s entire childhood. Here is the episode breakdown:
- Volume 1: Episodes 1 to 5
- Volume 2: Episodes 5 to 8 and episode 11
- Volume 3: Episodes 9 to 11
- Volume 4: Episodes 12 to 16
- Volume 5: Episodes 16 to 18 and the Eris OVA
- Volume 6: Episodes 19 to 23
Second Season of Mushoku Tensei
Like the first, the second season was also divided into two parts: the first aired in July 2023 with 12 episodes, and the second in April 2024 with 12 more episodes, totaling 24 episodes.
The second season adapted volumes 7 to 12 of the light novel, covering Rudeus’s adolescence. Here is the episode breakdown:
- Volume 7: Episodes 1 to 3 and episode 23 of the first season
- Volume 8: Episodes 4 to 7
- Volume 9: Episodes 8 to 12
- Volume 10: Episodes 13 to 15
- Volume 11: Episodes 16 to 18
- Volume 12: Episodes 19 to 24
Third Season of Mushoku Tensei
With 48 episodes, 12 volumes of the light novel have been adapted. In total, there are 26 volumes, plus 2 extra volumes that take place after the end of the main story. We don’t yet know if these extra volumes will be adapted, but logically, we can assume the third season will have another 24 episodes, divided into two parts of 12, covering volumes 13 to 18.
Fourth and fifth seasons
The fourth season could adapt volumes 19 to 24
The fifth season would likely be the last, with 11 or 12 episodes to calmly adapt the final two volumes of the novel, or up to 20 episodes if they adapt the two volumes of Mushoku Tensei Redundancy, which tell stories after the series ends.
