Ep 9 of Heavenly Delusion had a Weird Censorship
Did you know that the ep 9 of Heavenly Delusion had a weird censorship right in the final scenes of it? Warning, if you haven’t watched the anime until episode 9, you’ll end up reading spoilers here.
Let’s explain what happened and what a strange censorship it was.
Ep 9 of Heavenly Delusion had a Weird Censorship
At the end of episode 9, news that shocks everyone is revealed: Tokio is pregnant. After the director reveals this, all the adults in the room are shocked and start making various comments, such as asking who the father is (as there is always the possibility that an adult has been involved with Tokio, but we know that Kona is who got her pregnant).
Among the adults who comment on Tokyo’s pregnancy, we have this woman with glasses, who in astonishment says “So young”, because Tokio is a child and is already pregnant.
She is amazed that Tokio is so young, but did you know that she says something different in the manga? When picking up the official English version of the manga, it actually says: “But Tokio is 14 years old!”.
Yes, the anime decided to modify her speech, in the original she is surprised that Tokio is 14 years old and already pregnant, while the anime made her not mention Tokio’s age and just say that she is “young”.
However, you might think that this is only in the official English version of the manga, so I went to check the Japanese original and there it also says that Tokio has 14:
Now we can think that maybe it’s the fault of the subtitle of the anime that decided not to inform Tokio’s age? Then no. in the anime the girl says: “あの若さでなんて!” which is precisely “So young”, the production of the anime really modified what she said, taking the mention that Tokio is 14 years old altogether.
