He revealed that he’s seen several cases of power and sexual harassment over the years, including from a now-deceased director who was infamous for bullying newcomers. According to Hiro, even people with poor social behavior are not excluded from the industry as long as they are skilled—highlighting a troubling reality.
Despite this, Hiro also acknowledged the presence of kind professionals who support others even during off-hours. He believes it’s all a matter of luck when it comes to the studio environment.
He added that improving such toxic workplaces is challenging because the harassers often hold important positions and behave respectfully toward their superiors, making it hard to expose them.
Fans reacted strongly to Hiro’s posts, with many agreeing and sharing similar stories. Some mentioned that young animators have quit after being bullied by seniors, while others pointed out how female creators face even more harassment and power imbalances.
One fan wrote: “Changing studios just relocates the monster and creates new victims.” Another said: “Talent is prioritized over character, and that’s the root of the problem.”
There were also mentions that in areas like key animation and art direction, remote work has slightly reduced harassment opportunities—but issues persist.
Kanzaki Hiro’s message adds to the growing demand for change within the anime industry—highlighting the need for better working conditions, transparency, and effective reporting systems.
