Fan Spends Millions to Recreate Shin-chan’s House
Crayon Shin-chan is one of the most popular and longest-running anime series still airing today. Having debuted in 1992, the fact that it continues to be broadcast is a testament to its enduring popularity. Naturally, iconic locations from the anime, such as Shin-chan’s house, become a dream destination for fans.
Take today’s story as an example—a Chinese fan who decided to invest a significant amount of money to recreate the house where Shin-chan lives with his family. First, here’s a look at the house as seen in the anime:
Fan Spends Millions to Recreate Shin-chan’s House
According to Chinese news outlets, a 21-year-old Chinese fan with the surname Shen, who lives in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, spent around 3 million yuan (approximately $460,000) to recreate the famous “Shin-chan House” featured in the anime.
Shen took over his family’s sheep farm and spent over a year making his dream come true. He discovered that Crayon Shin-chan has an exclusive licensing agent in China. Determined to obtain official usage rights, Shen traveled to Shanghai five times and finally secured the authorization.
Construction of the house began in July 2024, but due to the need for custom-made materials, Shen spent a significant amount of money. In an interview, Shen stated: “Fortunately, my mother unconditionally supported me and provided the initial funding, allowing me to realize this dream.”
Currently, the “Shin-chan House” is nearly complete, occupying an area of about 100 square meters. It will be used as a photography spot—ideal for cosplay enthusiasts or fans who simply want to visit Shin-chan’s iconic family home and capture memorable photos.
After finishing the house, Shen plans to recreate “Futaba Kindergarten,” the preschool Shin-chan attends in the anime. He hopes to turn the kindergarten into an educational center, offering specialized classes on-site. Shen’s ultimate goal is to build the entire “Kasukabe Town” depicted in the anime.
Many internet users who watched videos of the “Shin-chan House” construction left comments such as:
- “Can I visit? I love Crayon Shin-chan!”
- “Will it be open to visitors once it’s ready?”
- “The first thing I’d do upon entering the house is say, ‘I’m back!’”
- “If you allow visitors, even for a fee, that would be amazing!”
Others suggested, “I suddenly want to build Nobita’s house next to yours,” and “Could you create Shinichi Kudo’s house too? At a 1:1 scale, of course.” Below, you can watch a video showcasing more of the recreated Shin-chan house:
The Crayon Shin-chan anime was created by mangaka Yoshito Usui, with the manga first serialized in 1990 in the Manga Action magazine. Unfortunately, Yoshito Usui passed away in 2009 during a mountain climbing trip. However, the manga didn’t end there.
Since 2010, the series has been continued by Yoshito Usui’s team of assistants under the name “Yoshito Usui & UY Studio.” Meanwhile, the animated version has been airing for 32 consecutive years, remaining a favorite for many fans. The franchise has also spawned numerous movies, OVAs, specials, and video games.
