College Student Arrested for Filming Childhood Friend in the Shower
The incident happened on June 15 in Fukuoka. The suspect, a university student, had been staying at his childhood friend’s house since the night before. Late at night, he allegedly placed his smartphone in the bathroom, hiding it in a way that it could record her without being noticed.
His childhood friend entered the bathroom and took a shower without knowing she was being filmed. After finishing, she noticed something strange near the sink — a smartphone hidden and actively recording. She immediately called the police.
Upon investigation, the police seized the student’s phone and found video evidence of him setting up the device, as well as footage of the girl completely naked. Authorities confirmed that the video violated Japan’s laws against recording sexually explicit content without consent.

Police also revealed that this wasn’t the first time the student had stayed overnight at her home, which may have created a false sense of safety for the girl.
During questioning, the student denied having any voyeuristic intent. He told police, “It just happened. I didn’t actually want to see her naked.” Despite the footage, he refused to take full responsibility for the act.
