American VAs of Kenshin Contribute to Child Protection because of the Author past crime
The English-dubbed version of Rurouni Kenshin (known as Samurai X in Brazil) is making its way to the United States, and the American voice actors are generously contributing a portion of their earnings to charity in response to the original author’s crimes.

Nobuhiro Watsuki was arrested by the police in 2017. At the time, Watsuki was detained for the “simple possession of child pornography.” According to the police, Watsuki had DVDs containing content of naked girls in early adolescence.
During police questioning, Watsuki allegedly stated that he “liked girls who were in the late elementary school to the second year of high school.”
Watsuki purchased DVDs with such content. While the author did not go to prison, he was fined R$ 6,400 and suspended from Shueisha, the publishing house for which he worked.
As a form of “protest,” the American voice actors of the anime are donating a portion of their earnings from the Rurouni Kenshin dubbing to the Child Rescue Coalition, an organization dedicated to protecting children and advocating for the punishment of perpetrators.
Howard Wang, who voices Kenshin, posted on his Twitter that he is “fully aware” of the author’s crimes and that he “does not tolerate or support” his actions. However, he donated $525 of his Kenshin earnings to the Child Rescue Coalition.
Jas Patrick, the voice of Hachisuka, donated $136.50 to the same organization.
Yong Yea, who voices Jine Udol, contributed $840 to the organization.
Bill Butts, another voice actor for Hajime Saito, donated $157 to the same organization. So far, fans are pleased with the actions of the voice actors and are sending indirect messages to the original author.
