Cosplayer Chukimeroday Says She Wants to Remove Her Tattoos: “No One Approaches Me”

Cosplayer Chukimeroday Says She Wants to Remove Her Tattoos

Chukimeroday is a cosplayer, YouTuber, and model who recently became a hot topic among otaku for saying she regrets getting tattoos. With just over 400,000 subscribers on YouTube, Chukimeroday has found some success with her audience.

Chukimeroday gave an interview to Bunshun (yes, the same outlet known for stalking celebrities to expose cheating and secret relationships), where she talked about her tattoos and what happened to her because of them.

Highlights from Chukimeroday’s interview:

— What kind of disadvantages have you actually faced because of your tattoos?

Chukimeroday: First, the reception from fans was bad. The ones who had followed me for a long time reacted like, “Oh, I see,” but later some told me, “To be honest, I was shocked when you got the tattoo.”
A lot of people used the word “shocked,” and that really made me feel terrible.

— Even if you see yourself as a “product,” doesn’t it still bother you when people make comments about your body?

Chukimeroday: When I got the tattoo, even though I was going through a self-destructive phase, I still felt guilty about it. It was like, “Sorry for doing what I want without considering everyone’s feelings.”

— The tattoo with the chemical formula looks pretty faded, doesn’t it?

Chukimeroday: I’m getting it removed. Right now, I want to erase as much as I can. If I could erase everything, I would.

— Are you removing them because of fan reactions?

Chukimeroday: That’s part of it, but at the time, I never imagined I’d be here—getting interviewed by Bunshun or appearing in gravure (sexy photo shoot) magazines. Back then, I was stuck in a mindset of inferiority, thinking, “No matter how hard I try, I’ll never be the kind of person who gets on that stage.”

But by pushing myself, I reached a place I never imagined possible.
Now that I’m here, I think things would go more smoothly without the tattoos, and I wouldn’t cause trouble for others either.

Once, I said I wanted to join a big photo event, and someone told me, “But that girl has tattoos, right? And the pool doesn’t allow tattoos by default.” All I could say was, “Yeah… that’s true.”

— You mentioned in a video that you can’t get a boyfriend because of your tattoos, right?

Chukimeroday: I’m aware that I’ve stopped attracting people.
They don’t even try to flirt with me anymore. When I was an idol, I had this cute bunny-like look with long curly hair. Back then, I’d get hit on in the streets. But after getting the tattoos, that completely stopped. Even when I go drinking with other game streamers, it’s obvious the guys don’t see me as a woman. None of them show any interest in me.

Until making this post, I had never heard of Chukimeroday, but reading about her, I found out she’s single and actually wants a boyfriend — yet she lives with her manager!
He’s in his 40s and helps her with her YouTube work.

— Isn’t it because people suspect you’re involved with your manager, Maneta-san, since you live together? You seem really close in videos.

Chukimeroday: We’re really just living together as artist and manager. We’ve explained in videos that we’re not a couple, but people just don’t believe it.

It’s hard to believe when she herself makes it known that she lives with a guy in his 40s (while saying she likes older men), yet insists he’s not her boyfriend, lover, or husband.

Let’s take a look at the reactions:

“Who is this?”

“I think getting or not getting tattoos is a personal choice, but people who realize the downsides and then scream ‘accept me anyway’ are really annoying.”

“So true. Tattoos are a symbol of criminals, so people need to accept the consequences.
Honestly, it’s exactly because there are downsides that a bunch of idiots get tattoos to feel like outlaws.”

“She looks like a yakuza.”

“These days there are so many tattooed foreigners walking around the city. Is it that trendy?”

“It freaks me out to see scrawny white guys with glasses and full sleeve tattoos.”

“Thanks to the weak yen, even broke delinquent-looking foreigners are coming to Japan now.”

“Women with tattoos give off the impression that they’re dating some thug. It’s scary.”

“Why’d she even get a tattoo?”

“Me in public: ‘Tattoos? I think they’re totally fine.’
Me inside: ‘Ew… this FC2 girl has tattoos…’ total turn-off.”

(FC2 is an adult content website.)

“Decent people don’t get tattoos.”

“Even in the U.S., the most popular adult stars are the ones without tattoos or just a small one.”

“Anyone who scribbles on their body like that can’t be normal.”

“Am I the only one who thinks even piercings are too much?”

Well, people really are strongly against tattoos.
