South Korea has announced an ambitious plan for its animation industry, aiming to transform the sector by 2030. The South Korean government revealed the “2025-2030 Basic Plan for Animation Industry Promotion,” led by Acting President and Prime Minister Duck-soo Han, focusing on expanding investments and conquering the global market.

Among the goals of South Korea’s plan for the animation industry is the creation of an initial fund of 20 billion won (around US$15 million) this year, with the expectation of reaching 150 billion won (approximately US$106 million) by 2029. Focus on Streaming and Short-Form Content
Following digital media trends, South Korea’s plan for the animation industry also prioritizes developing content targeted at young adults, formats optimized for streaming platforms, and short videos. The government will encourage cross-adaptations with webtoons and online novels, which are highly popular in the region.
Another highlight of South Korea’s plan for the animation industry is support for AI-based video production, the creation of Korean language-specific training data, and the development of related technologies. The investment in artificial intelligence promises to modernize the production chain and create new opportunities.
To meet the growing demand, the government plans to strengthen educational programs.
