Hana-Kimi Anime Comes After 4 Live-Action Series!
A classic manga getting an anime adaptation is always cause for celebration, especially for beloved works like Hana-Kimi. What’s fascinating in this case is that, since its debut in 1996, the manga received four live-action adaptations before finally being adapted into an anime!
Imagine having a popular manga that only gets drama adaptations but no anime? That was the case for Hana-Kimi. But the wait is over. Let’s revisit the four live-action adaptations that preceded the long-awaited anime:
Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (2006 – Taiwan)
The first live-action adaptation came from Taiwan under the title Hanazakarino Kimitachihe. It aired from November 19, 2006, to March 4, 2007, with 15 episodes. The story stayed true to the manga but was set in Taiwan instead of Japan.
Hana-Kimi (2007 and 2011 – Japan)
On July 3, 2007, Fuji TV (auch) premiered the first Japanese live-action version, starring Maki Horikita as the lead. This series had 13 episodes and became a hit. In 2011, Fuji TV produced a remake with an entirely new cast, though this version only had 11 episodes.
To the Beautiful You (2012 – South Korea)
The Korean adaptation, titled To the Beautiful You, aired on August 15, 2012. Actress and singer Sulli played the protagonist Goo Jae-hee. Like the Taiwanese version, the story remained faithful to the manga but was set in South Korea. The series had 16 episodes.
Finally, after decades of waiting and four live-action adaptations, the Hana-Kimi anime is here to bring the beloved story to a new generation of fans.
