Shueisha, the publisher behind the globally popular manga One Piece, has launched new legal actions targeting major piracy websites, including Manganato, Mangakakalot, and four others.

On February 4, 2025, Shueisha filed a subpoena request against Cloudflare, seeking detailed information about the operators of six sites illegally distributing One Piece chapters. Among the listed platforms, “chapmanganato.to” stands out with a staggering 65.2 million monthly visits in December 2024.

Other notable mentions include chapmanganelo.com (24 million), mangakakalot.com (20.4 million), and m.manganelo.com (18.1 million).

Shueisha asserts that Cloudflare, as a CDN provider, only discloses such information under court orders. Consequently, the publisher is requesting contact details, IP logs, billing records, and server information of the site operators. This isn’t Cloudflare’s first encounter with such requests from Shueisha. Just two weeks earlier, the company was subpoenaed for details regarding 19 piracy sites with a combined 560 million monthly visits.

This isn’t the first time Manganelo and Manganato have been under Shueisha’s scrutiny. In 2022, in collaboration with VIZ Media, Shueisha sought information from companies like PayPal, Google, and Visa to pursue legal actions in Vietnam, where these sites were suspected to operate. However, legal hurdles prevented publishers from accessing data directly from Vietnamese telecom providers.

Meanwhile, anti-piracy laws are progressing in the U.S. The Foreign Anti-Digital Piracy Act (FADPA), introduced by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, aims to block access to foreign piracy sites for American citizens. If passed, providers like Google and Cloudflare would be legally required to restrict access to such platforms while enjoying immunity from future damages.

Shueisha’s actions underscore its commitment to protecting One Piece and other titles. While piracy remains a significant challenge, increasingly strict measures are being implemented to combat it.
