A discussion that has always existed on the western side of otaku culture is the age-old debate of ” Who the Strongest Anime Character Is.” If you search on YouTube, you’ll find numerous videos on this topic, with the most common one being “Goku vs. Saitama.”
But guess what? This isn’t a discussion limited to Western fans; the Japanese also ponder the same question.
Japanese Fans Also Debate Who the Strongest Anime Character Is
A simple Twitter post reached 11 million views. The otaku in question shared an image featuring 9 genuinely powerful anime characters and questioned which of them would emerge as the victor.
Let’s introduce each of the characters above. We have Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen, Reinhard from Re:Zero, Tatsuya from Mahouka, Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom, Saitama from One Punch Man, Goku from Dragon Ball, Saiki from the anime… Saiki, Rimuru from Tensura, and Anos from Maou Gakuin.
Let’s see what the Japanese had to say about this philosophical question of the year:
“I hope it’s Saitama… for no particular reason.”
“In the end, it’s Goku, isn’t it?”
“Rimuru is an infinitely evolving slime. If he devours everyone, how strong will he be?”
“Probably, in the end, it’s Rimuru.”
“1/3 of them are voiced by Yuichi Nakamura. That’s incredible!”
Yuichi Nakamura voices Gojo, Reinhard, and Tatsuya, the three in the top row.
“Anos is the most powerful.”
“It’s difficult to choose.”
“Goku is infinitely superior.”
“Levi is the best.”
“I wish Ainz were here too” (from Overlord).
“I wonder if this fight will have an ending.”
“I recently watched the second season of Maou Gakuin. I hope Anos wins.”
“I’m rooting for Gojo-sensei.”
“Among Rimuru, Anos, and Reinhard, who would win?”
“Saiki vs. Rimuru would make the universe collapse.”
“Goku is the absolute choice.”
“Goku seems stronger to me.”
“Personally, I’d like Saiki to win.”
In the end, this is a question we’d only have an answer to if all the authors came together and reached a conclusion. If I’m not mistaken, there’s an author out there who has revealed which characters would beat others in a fight.
Otaku fans are the same no matter where they are in the world.
