TikToker Claims MAPPA Used AI in Jujutsu Kaisen 2

TikToker diz que MAPPA usou IA em Jujutsu Kaisen 2

One of the reasons why we, at Crazy for Anime Trivia, don’t talk about animation and how it’s made is because it’s a subject we don’t understand. I know there are many fans out there who enjoy learning about the staff, animation techniques, and how the anime was produced, including the animators, sketches, etc.

I see the huge number of views that websites and profiles gain when analyzing animations of famous anime. However, this is an area I don’t grasp. When we bring something here, it’s when it’s being discussed by someone who understands the subject.

Apparently, this is not the case with a TikToker.

Comparing Jujutsu Kaisen Anime vs. Manga

A TikToker named “theabsurdistotaku” recently posted a video that went viral on Twitter, and the reason is not good. Apparently, she provided incorrect information about the animation of Jujutsu Kaisen 2.

She basically made a video comparing scenes from the manga and the anime of Jujutsu Kaisen 2 and questioned why MAPPA changed “iconic panels” from the manga to the anime.

First, let’s see some comparisons between the scenes from the anime and the manga of Jujutsu Kaisen?

From some comments I saw on the internet, people prefer the manga version, finding the panels more beautiful and “iconic” compared to the anime.

This is a comparison where, in my opinion, the anime turned out much better than the manga. So, it varies; some scenes look better in the anime, and others in the manga, but that’s the case with the majority of anime.

Kimetsu no Yaiba is a case where, at least in my opinion, the anime wins over the manga in terms of visuals.

TikToker Claims MAPPA Used AI in Jujutsu Kaisen 2

Well, as mentioned above, there is a TikToker called theabsurdistotaku who made a video “responding” to why MAPPA changed those “iconic panels” in Jujutsu Kaisen. According to her, she had conversations with animators, watched the episode frame by frame, and said that the causes are:

Use of AI, Budget, and Time.

To support her claim of AI usage in the anime, she took the scene below; if you’ve seen the anime, you know which scene it is. Notice that we have “2 faces” of the character in question. She said that this was done by AI, which attempts to fill the gap left from one scene to another.

However, she provided false information. The “ghosting” effect is an intentional blurring or double imaging effect used on Japanese television to prevent triggering epileptic seizures, especially in response to certain flashing lights or patterns.

It is a safety measure implemented to protect viewers who may be photosensitive and susceptible to seizures induced by visual stimuli. This effect is part of broadcasting regulations in Japan and is not related to image generation via artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, she provided other incorrect information and even claimed that the majority of MAPPA’s animation is done by AI. After receiving various responses regarding her video, she made a response video where she blocked comments and maintained her opinion about MAPPA’s animation.

These are some reactions from otakus:

“Bait or just stupidity?”

“WTF, she speaks with so much confidence.”

“This is so funny.”

“It’s really revealing that on TikTok, if you speak in front of the camera with full confidence, people will believe/get involved in your videos, even if you’re just making things up.”

“‘My uncle works at MAPPA’ just became real.”

“After talking to a random person who supposedly is an animator but has no involvement with the project and making a bunch of assumptions, I concluded that…”

“Her response video is more embarrassing to me. It’s like she doesn’t understand that no one is forcing her to make a video about a subject she doesn’t understand!”

“With which ‘animator’ did she talk?”

“Is she serious?”

In the end, I don’t know if this is really bait, and she’s doing it seriously to become known, or if she genuinely believes in this and is, in fact, serious about it.
