The official website for The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch has confirmed that the manga by Yōsuke Kaneda will receive a TV anime adaptation in 2026. Alongside the announcement, a teaser video was released, along with details on the main cast and production staff.

What is The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch About?

According to the anime’s official English website, the story centers on Spica Virgo, a witch apprentice who can’t use magic. Her dream is to enter a prestigious magic academy, but without magical abilities, money, or connections, her chances seem impossible—until she meets a talking black cat who can use magic.

This mysterious cat is actually a cursed magician, and Spica’s goal to learn magic perfectly aligns with his desire to break the spell. The two form a secret mentor-apprentice pact, setting the stage for a magical journey that may just hinge on… a kiss?

Main Cast and Staff for the Anime Adaptation

The voice cast will feature:

  • Kaede Hondo as Spica Virgo, an aspiring witch determined to become a first-class sorceress.

  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Claude Sirius, the magician trapped in the form of a black cat.

The anime will be directed by Naoyuki Tatsuwa, known for his work on Nisekoi, Promise of Wizard, and Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru!. Midori Gotō, who worked on Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun and Mr. Villain’s Day Off, is handling series composition. Character designs are by Takayuki Onoda, who previously worked on Hortensia Saga. The animation will be handled by LIDEN FILMS.

The original manga The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch was launched by Yōsuke Kaneda in March 2022 through Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. The 12th compiled volume is scheduled for release this Thursday in Japan. The series is also available in English via Kodansha’s K MANGA digital platform.

About the Author

Yōsuke Kaneda is also the creator of Boarding School Juliet, originally published in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2015 before moving to Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2017. The series concluded in 2019 with 16 volumes. It was nominated for the 41st Annual Kodansha Manga Awards in the Shōnen category and received both digital and print English editions via Kodansha Comics. The manga also received a successful anime adaptation.
