Based on the record-breaking webtoon, the Solo Leveling live-action on Netflix will follow the journey of Sung Jinwoo — an E-rank Hunter considered the weakest in a world where portals unleash terrifying monsters. After a life-threatening encounter, Jinwoo gains unique abilities that allow him to level up, transforming into humanity’s last hope.
Originally a web novel by Chugong released in 2016, Solo Leveling was adapted into a webtoon in 2018 with illustrations by Dubu and script by h-goon, distributed via KakaoPage. The series quickly became a global sensation, amassing over 14.3 billion views and holding the top spot on the platform.
Byeon Woo-seok, who gained popularity through roles in 20th Century Girl and Lovely Runner, is set to portray the protagonist. The live-action will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, known for their collaboration on titles like Ashfall, Like a Virgin, and Castaway on the Moon.
Netflix is producing the Solo Leveling live-action in collaboration with Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures. Further details, including release windows and supporting cast, are expected to be announced soon.
