Ryo Kono, Art Director of Mob Psycho 100, Devilman Crybaby and others, has passed away
A very sad piece of news for all those who enjoy beautifully produced anime with stunning visuals: the art director responsible for gorgeous works such as Mob Psycho 100, Space Dandy, Carole and Tuesday, Devilman Crybaby, and others, Ryo Kono, has passed away.
Ryo Kono passed away on October 23rd, and the news was shared on Twitter by her nephew. According to him, Ryo Kono died suddenly, with a suspected cause being gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
He mentioned that the family is deeply shaken by this completely unexpected loss and is struggling to come to terms with it. He also shared that all the anime Kono worked on are a source of pride for the family, and he expressed his gratitude to fans for their kindness.
Ryo Kono, whose real name was Hiromi Kono, served as art director for anime such as Mob Psycho 100 (all three seasons), Paranoia Agent, Space Dandy (both seasons), Super Crooks, Carole and Tuesday, Kaiba, Kemonozume, and Devilman Crybaby.
She also worked as a background artist for projects such as Ninja Scroll (film), Vampire Hunter D, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card, Perfect Blue, among many others.
