Ronin Warriors Gets New Anime Sequel Set for 2026

Did you ever watch Ronin Warriors? Known in Japan as Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, this classic anime series aired in the late 1980s and was localized in several countries, including the U.S. during the 1990s. Now, fans have reason to celebrate: a brand-new sequel anime has been announced, with a scheduled premiere in January 2026.

A teaser visual and short promotional video for the new Ronin Warriors anime have just been released.

The upcoming anime is being produced by Sunrise, the studio that also created the original 1988 series. This new installment will serve as a direct sequel to the original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. It will be directed by Youichi Fujita (Gintama), with the script written by Shogo Muto (Kamen Rider Build).

Original Anime Synopsis

Thousands of years ago, the evil emperor Talpa attempted to conquer Earth. He was defeated and banished to the Netherworld, while his mystical armor was split into nine separate suits. Now he’s returned, having reclaimed four of them—and he’s once again trying to seize control of the world. The remaining five suits are in the hands of the Ronin Warriors, Earth’s last hope to stop Talpa’s conquest.

The original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers aired in Japan from April 1988 to March 1989, totaling 39 episodes. In the U.S., it became known as Ronin Warriors and gained a cult following through TV broadcasts and home video.
