Producer of Atelier Yumia Shares Insights on Elegant, Alluring Character Designs
In interviews with Famitsu and 4Gamer, producer Junzo Hosoi offered fans an inside look into the creative vision for Atelier Yumia. He noted that the characters in the game exude a modern, stylish, and attractive appeal.
Yumia, the new protagonist in the Atelier series, has a bold and alluring design with long legs and fitted attire, showing that the franchise hasn’t abandoned its ecchi elements in Atelier Yumia.
Unlike Ryza’s more cute appearance, Yumia’s design emphasizes a more mature and contemporary aesthetic.
Character artist Benitama, known for previous illustration work on the Atelier Marie remake, focused on creating avant-garde designs while balancing fantasy and functionality. “We thought, ‘If we design the characters and costumes with a cutting-edge approach, by the time we release the game, these designs will establish a modern fantasy fashion style,’” Hosoi explained to 4Gamer.
However, the design process wasn’t without its challenges. Isla, one of the characters, had her design completed early on but initially appeared more like the main character. “When we looked at Isla’s design, she felt more like the protagonist,” Hosoi shared.
To ensure Yumia stood out as the lead, her design underwent around 30 to 40 revisions. “To create an RPG that resonates with a global audience, we needed a protagonist with a fresh, captivating design,” Hosoi told Famitsu. “As a result, we aimed for a style that conveys strength, independence, and dynamic movement.”
Hosoi believes fans will appreciate the evolution in detail within the Atelier franchise. Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is scheduled for release on March 21, 2025.
