One Piece in Love Returns After a 3 Years Hiatus
Have you ever heard of One Piece in Love? This romantic comedy spin-off based on the One Piece universe made a big comeback in 2025 after a long hiatus — and it even received a short anime adaptation!
Created by Daiki Ihara, One Piece in Love began publishing digitally on the Shonen Jump+ platform in June 2018, and its first physical volume was released in December 2018. The series offers a lighthearted and humorous take on the world of One Piece, focusing on romance and everyday moments.
At AnimeJapan 2025, it was announced that One Piece in Love would receive a short anime adaptation, consisting of five episodes released over five consecutive days, from April 1 to April 5, 2025.
The anime was presented in vertical format, optimized for smartphones, and released on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram — showing a modern approach aimed at younger audiences.
Long Hiatus from 2021 to 2025
The manga went on hiatus from November 7, 2021, to April 9, 2025, as creator Daiki Ihara focused on other series, including:
- Protect Me, Shugomaru! (Nov 2021 – Jun 2022)
- Yokai Buster Murakami (Jun 2024 – Nov 2024)
Initially, Ihara had planned to end One Piece in Love for good, but he was persuaded by the Jump editorial team to treat it as a temporary break instead. He promised to return and properly conclude the story someday.
Keeping his promise, Ihara resumed serialization of One Piece in Love on April 10, 2025, right after the anime’s release. Fans of the series were excited, and the news also drew the attention of new readers who hadn’t experienced the manga yet.
