Mushoku tensei Author warned staff about potential criticism of S2
Again? Is this going to be a weekly thing now? With the latest Episode 7 of Mushoku Tensei, another discussion about Rudeus has ignited on the internet, and the author had to once again speak out that he doesn’t agree with certain actions of Rudeus in real life.
Mushoku tensei Author warned staff about potential criticism of S2
For context, what happened in Episode 7 of Mushoku Tensei? Basically, Rudeus discovered that the figure of Roxy that he made and left with Zanoba was broken by Linia and Puserna, and then he decides to punish them in some way.
After defeating the two rather easily, he takes the girls to his room and leaves them tied up there, even touching Puserna’s chest to see if his friend would wake up (which didn’t happen).
Due to this punishment by Rudeus to the two beast girls, they start calling him ‘boss,’ officially entering Rudeus’s ‘group.’ However, many people weren’t happy with this scene, and various negative comments about Rudeus were made.
Interestingly, the author of Mushoku Tensei, Rifujin na Magonote, was already expecting the second season to be full of criticism from the audience and even warned the anime staff to be prepared.
He posted the following on his profile:
“From the first day of the scriptwriters’ meeting for the second season, I said that there were many parts that would surely be criticized, so we should be prepared. However, I’m seeing criticism about parts I wasn’t expecting. Will this spread like wildfire…”
私は「2期は炎上しやすい話が多いから、覚悟していきましょうね」って脚本会議に初日に言うぐらいには色々と覚悟してて、奴隷や監禁は"炎上しやすい話"にあたるんだけど……。

The author of Mushoku Tensei even explained how certain characters have different perspectives. For example, Rudeus touching Puserna’s chest, despite receiving a lot of criticism for that scene, didn’t bother Puserna much as she has her own sense of chastity.

The author concluded by saying that everyone is friends now, but he wanted to express that he doesn’t agree with depriving someone of their freedom in the way Rudeus did. It’s strange to see an author almost every week saying he disagrees with certain things his fictional story portrays.
Criticism That Rudeus is a Bad Person
Many people like to say that Rudeus isn’t a good person. An ANN article generated buzz for stating, ‘Mushoku Tensei Episode 7 gives us the perfect opportunity to discuss that Rudeus isn’t a good person.’ And yes, nobody in Mushoku Tensei is entirely good or evil, just like in real life.
Rudeus isn’t 100% good or 100% bad; nothing is black and white, gray exists, and gray characters are even more interesting. Take, for example, Shirou from Fate; he’s completely kind, allied with justice, and one of the characters I find most dull (obviously my personal opinion).
All the characters in Mushoku Tensei have and show their good and bad sides. Even the two beast sisters insult Sylphie in the same Episode 7.
An otaku commented on the ANN review that claimed Rudeus is a bad person in Episode 7 of Mushoku Tensei:
“I’d give this review 2 stars. 1 star for the last paragraph and another 1 for writing it. It’s obvious ANN is up to their usual shenanigans. There’s no denying that Rudy embodies many bad characteristics; the writer clearly enjoys stating the obvious. But it’s also what makes him human.
People are selfish. Plain and simple. Rudy isn’t any different. As much as we like to pretend we’re all good people, most of us don’t care about something that doesn’t directly affect us. You also forgot to mention that Rudy actually performed altruistic acts in previous episodes without any personal gain.
He’s not just selfish. He has good and bad qualities, like any other person. And regarding Juliette, I’ll direct your attention to the scene you conveniently forgot to write about in this article, where Rudy states that Julie wasn’t marked or spelled to prevent her from escaping. She could leave whenever she wanted.”
Let’s wait for next week when more criticisms will undoubtedly arise, and the author will once again make a post expressing his disagreement with certain actions depicted in a fictional story.
