Most AI-made Doujins Aren’t Selling
Sites like Fanza and DLsite allow anyone to create an account and sell their doujin products, be it ASMR, manga, games, illustrations, etc., and we usually feature them here on the site when certain products sell well.
For example, an ASMR about a cute anime cleaning your ears that sold a lot, or when we published here about adult mangas that generated huge sales.
Most AI-made Doujins Aren’t Selling
And when there are no sales? Well, with AIs being able to create illustrations and also mangas, many doujins have appeared in the DLsite and Fanza stores, and a dedicated otaku discovered that most AI-made doujins aren’t selling.
According to him, he checked 342 AI-made doujin works and found that in 1 week 189 of them had not sold above 10 copies, which means that the majority (or 55%) of AI-made doujins did not sell above 2 digits!
Obviously, these numbers were presented by a Japanese person who looked at sales data on Fanza. What if we take a longer time frame? According to what was said, even if we increase it by more weeks, half of the AI-made doujins had less than 10 sales! Let’s see how people react to this information?
“After all, AI is just a tool.”
“I can create a doujin myself, so I don’t need to buy it.”
“Those who know how to make something that sells should just hire an illustrator and produce something profitable.”
“If I can make it myself, I don’t need to buy it, and I don’t want to buy it. It seems like buying is losing.”
“It seems like there are more people advocating for AI, huh? Haha.”
“The market is more accessible and has a large number of participants, so AI has much more demand and potential than traditional artists. Being jealous and creating a topic like this is really regrettable.”
“There’s no passion, so it’s not exciting. It’s like capsule food in a dystopia.”
“The problem is making fanart with the Lora that someone else created. What would be interesting is for the artist to train the AI with his own characters and have the AI create something different from what he normally draws.”
“Because no one wants that.”
“It’s low-quality mass production. Even if there’s a well-made piece of work, it gets lost in the trash.”
“What percentage of works with less than 10 sales are not AI?”
“AI ‘artists’ earn less than can collectors.”
“If the artist is dedicated, even weird things like ‘Motsuaki’ will sell. AI doesn’t have that.”
“Why would I pay for something that anyone can do? Haha.”
