During its panel at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Netflix revealed an impressive milestone: more than half of Netflix users watch anime. This statistic translates to over 150 million households — approximately 300 million viewers worldwide.

According to Netflix, anime viewership has tripled in the last five years. The year 2024 alone saw 33 anime titles break into Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English) — more than double compared to 2021. In total, anime was streamed over 1 billion times globally this year, marking it as one of the platform’s most-watched content categories.

In addition to the record-breaking reach, Netflix stated that 80% to 90% of anime viewers prefer watching dubbed versions. To meet that demand, the company now provides audio and subtitles in up to 33 languages, allowing more people to enjoy anime in their native tongue.

Upcoming Anime on Netflix: From Action to Cute Stop-Motion

Leading the upcoming anime slate is Sakamoto Days, based on the hit manga about a former assassin turned family man. The show’s first season made it to Netflix’s Global Top 10 and ranked in 54 countries, including Japan, South Korea, France, and Argentina. Season 2 will begin on July 14 with weekly episodes.

My Melody & Kuromi and More Anime Titles Coming in 2024

Fans of cute characters can look forward to My Melody & Kuromi, a stop-motion series debuting on July 24. The story follows the Sanrio icons on an adventure to protect their homeland, Mariland, from an unknown threat.
