“he was tough” says One Piece live action Showrunner about Oda
The One Piece Live Action has left a good portion of fans feeling skeptical. After all, fans of anime and manga have dealt with a history of poor anime adaptations like Netflix’s Death Note and Dragon Ball.
However, in the case of Netflix’s One Piece Live Action, Eiichiro Oda is in control and has ensured that all his wishes are being granted for the new series set to premiere at the end of the month.
Is Oda’s involvement in the One Piece Live Action reassuring for fans?
The showrunner of the One Piece Live Action, Matt Owens, is a fan of the work and revealed that pitching the idea of a live action to Oda left him on edge.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous about anything in my entire life,” confessed Owens.
“Here was this person who created this story that I have so much love and reverence for, and I’m asking him to trust me, his child.”
“I won’t lie, he was tough at the beginning. This wasn’t the first attempt at a One Piece Live Action, and we weren’t the first people trying to express it in a new way,” Owens revealed.
“But I think when he realized that we were coming from the right place, trying to protect this work and pave a new path for even more people to fall in love with it, he started to trust us.”
It’s common to feel wary about an anime coming to life. Many fans are concerned. However, this might be the first time we’ll have a decent anime live action, and with the creator himself overseeing everything, bringing One Piece to even more people.
