”I think that’s enough. A film created by top-class animators representing Japan, merely being used by the elderly to pass the time,” said Matsuyama, starting his critique.
He continues: ”Perhaps this new film will be the last time we see Hayao Miyazaki’s name in the credits. The team that worked on it will never forget it for the rest of their lives, so that’s good. But I must swear from the bottom of my heart never to create something like this.”
Matsuyama explained how it was disconcerting to realize that an entire team at Studio Ghibli made the film with the thought: ”I don’t think it’s good, but I’ll do it”.
CyberConnect2 is a company that develops games, and among some of the games they have produced are: Fuga: Melodies of Steel, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, among others.
It’s not only the President of CyberConnect2 who has a negative opinion about the film; on the Yahoo Movies website, the rating for Studio Ghibli’s new film is 2.9:
Meanwhile, on Filmarks, the film’s rating is 3.8, showing a considerable improvement.
Hiroshi Matsuyama concluded by saying that since it was the end of the line, it was something he could learn to forgive. However, it was still something he would remember never to create something so bad.
