Cosplayers Before and After: Challenge Reveals Childhood Photos
In recent days, Japanese cosplayers have been participating in a fun Twitter challenge under the hashtag #コスプレイヤーbeforeafter選手権, which translates to “Cosplay Before and After Championship.” This challenge encourages cosplayers to share old photos of themselves and compare them to their current looks.
Cosplayers Before and After: Incredible Transformations
Many cosplayers are joining the trend, posting childhood photos alongside their best recent cosplays. One example is Shihonana, who shared a picture from her childhood next to her present-day self, where she appears as VTuber Sakura Miko.
Now that you know how this challenge works, you can check it out directly on Twitter or see some selected comparisons below.
Among the highlights is Furicos, who revealed that she used to play rugby as a child. Meanwhile, Hoshimaru Kurage commented that no matter her age, she still considers herself a mischievous girl.
Cosplayer Tsukune posted a comparison between a childhood photo and her Alya from Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian cosplay, joking that her “mental age is still the same.”
Meanwhile, Caties, a foreign cosplayer, won the hearts of Japanese fans by showing that she has always been cute—both as a child and now as an adult. She even admitted, “I haven’t changed much.”
Another standout in this challenge is Russian cosplayer Saya Scarlet, who went viral in September 2024 after being interviewed on Japanese TV while wearing a Hatsune Miku cosplay.
Cosplayer Jean, another foreign participant who went viral under the hashtag, made a fun comparison between his past and present self. He revealed that he was a shy boy as a child, but now, as an adult, he has become a “cosplaying professor.”
Cosplayer Mimari shared one of her favorite childhood photos, mentioning that her parents found it strange, but she liked it so much that she made it her LINE profile picture. Who would have thought that years later, she would become Makima?
Another interesting story comes from Suzuran, who seemed to have some insecurities about her childhood appearance. In her comparison, she asked: “Do I look more feminine now?” As a child, she really did resemble a boy.
And finally, one of the most heartwarming moments in this challenge: two childhood friends who still keep in touch and do cosplays together! Haru and her friend remain close, and we hope their friendship lasts for many years!
