Is Black Bullet Finally Returning? Light Novel Series Teased After 11-Year Hiatus

Fans of Black Bullet received a huge surprise recently when Dengeki Bunko, the publisher behind the light novel, posted a mysterious teaser on social media—hinting at the possible return of the long-dormant series.

For those unfamiliar, Black Bullet is a Japanese light novel series that began in 2011 and went on indefinite hiatus after releasing its 7th volume in April 2014. That same year, it gained wider recognition thanks to a 13-episode anime adaptation, which aired from April to July 2014.

Now, more than a decade later, there’s a glimmer of hope that the story will continue.

Although nothing official has been confirmed regarding a new volume or continuation, the tweet has sent Japanese fans into a frenzy of excitement and speculation.

Some of the fan reactions online include:

  • “Is it really Black Bullet? I’m so happy!”

  • “It’s alive?!”

  • “No way… there’s no way… What?!”

  • “I’m starting to feel hope in life again.”

What is Black Bullet About?

For those new to the series, here’s a quick overview of the Black Bullet anime storyline:

Set in the year 2021, humanity faces near-extinction due to a parasitic virus known as Gastrea, which transforms infected humans into monstrous creatures. The survivors live within protective barriers called Monoliths, constructed from Varanium, the only material capable of harming Gastrea.

To fight back, special teams are formed consisting of “Initiators” — young girls who carry the Gastrea virus but gain superhuman abilities because of it — and their adult partners known as “Promoters“, who guide and support them in combat missions.

Together, these pairs take on the responsibility of protecting what’s left of humanity from the constant Gastrea threat.

Will Black Bullet Finally Get New Light Novel Volumes?

At this point, there’s no official confirmation about a new volume release date or a full series revival. But considering this is the first public hint from the publisher in years, fans are hopeful that more information will come soon.
