You’ve probably never heard of the YouTuber Wakarase Choro, a small VTuber with just 14,000 subscribers who recently announced that she’ll be retiring on the 31st of this month. But what’s surprising here is the reason behind her retirement.

Everything began on May 16, when the agency Sinsogumi made a post announcing that Wakarase would be graduating. In their statement, they explained the reason as follows:

“There was a major conflict between Wakarase Choro and her family. Due to events and outside filming, as well as concerns for her physical well-being, she suffered significant mental distress. As a result, her overall condition has made it difficult to continue her activities.”

Later, Wakarase held a short 10-minute stream where she gave more details about the reason for her graduation — and what she said is honestly wild.

Basically, she revealed that she has an extremely controlling mother who monitors her streams and even sends her anonymous messages (which Wakarase can tell are from her mother).

The mother has reportedly sent people to find out where Wakarase lives. The VTuber said her mother treats her like she’s an idiot who can’t take care of herself, which leads to this excessive control. Because of her mother, she had to skip several events and said she can’t take the mental pressure anymore.

That’s why she decided to graduate — because she’s under constant surveillance. The reaction from her fans was full of sympathy. Here are some of the comments:

There are also rumors among fans that the mother wanted Wakarase to be her “ideal gyaru” (a flashy, fashionable girl), and that she used to sit beside her during streams and tell her what she could or couldn’t do. That eventually pushed Wakarase to move out — which in turn led to her mother investigating where she had gone. None of this is officially confirmed, but it’s what’s being said.
